Fantasy Sports Writers Association Newsletter
March 2007
~ Greetings FSWA Members ~
Our 2006 Awards Ceremony was a smashing success! Through a cooperative endeavor with Jeff Thomas and the Fantasy Sports Trade Association, the FSWA presented sixteen fantasy sports writing awards at the recent FSTA Spring Business Conference in Chicago. The FSTA event also featured a panel discussion on “Editorial Trends & Innovations”, which was moderated by FSWA Chairman Mike Beacom. The panel discussion was well received and was the first of its kind for the FSTA Conference. Given the success of the conference, we would anticipate continued partnerships with the FSTA in the future.
In working with Jeff and the FSTA over the last several months, we learned that there is a certain niche’ for business owners within the FSWA. While we cater to the writers and serve to recognize them, fantasy sports business owners can also benefit from our organization. Case in point - Matthew Berry owns and operates TalentedMrRoto.com, a popular fantasy sports website on the Internet. Unlike some site owners, Matt embraced the concept of recognizing the writers that worked for his site. Moreover, Matt featured the FSWA through cross-promotion of the awards and those of his writers who were nominated. The concept is quite simple, yet very effective. Take a look and judge for yourself. CLICK HERE
We believe that this cross-promotion concept is one that should be embraced by fantasy sports business owners as a whole. We certainly encourage others in the fantasy sports community to take advantage of this unique opportunity to highlight the accomplishments of your writing staff.
In closing, we feel that it is in your best interest to encourage your writers to become members of the FSWA. Furthermore, you should strive to nominate your staff for these yearly awards, so that they can be recognized for the important contributions that they make to the industry. Finally, we would encourage the use of the FSWA’s yearly award process as a featured part of your site, magazine or publication.
If you would like more information about membership benefits or promotional ideas, please drop me a line. I’d love to discuss any ideas you may have.
