Fantasy Sports Writers Association Newsletter
June 2006

~ Greetings FSWA Members ~

One of the stated goals for the FSWA is “to recognize the work of fantasy sports writers by means of annual awards for journalistic excellence.” To date, this organization has recognized over 20 fantasy sports writers throughout the industry. As a matter of fact, the nomination process for another round of awards will begin within the next several weeks. While we’re very proud of this achievement, the award process is only one of several stated goals for this organization.

This newsletter serves to promote another one of our goals. It states “the FSWA will act as a place to network aspiring writers with job openings throughout the industry. Companies and writers who are members of the FSWA will have access to a networking message board designed to allow writers to network with parent companies.”  Over the last couple of months, we have begun in earnest to advertise writing opportunities for aspiring writers in an assortment of fantasy sports. To this end, I would also encourage everyone to take advantage of the FSWA forums for networking and writing opportunities. After being hacked by someone with nothing better to do, George Kerwood has done a great job of repairing the forums. They are back up and running, so jump in and make use of them.

Lastly, our mission statement affirms that “the FSWA will function as an advocate for fantasy writers' concerns… and will strive to promote and acknowledge the hard work and dedication shown by fantasy sports writers throughout the industry.” Quite simply, I believe that the FSWA must give fantasy sports writers the tools they need to succeed. In the coming weeks, we will begin the process of identifying what “tools” we can make available to our membership.

As part of the process we will be soliciting your input by means of a survey.  While I have some definite ideas that I think will be very helpful, I would be remiss if I didn’t seek out ideas from our membership.  As such, I would ask that if anyone has a suggestion, please forward it to my attention within the next week or so. When the survey is released, your involvement will be vital in identifying and prioritizing these ideas for implementation.  I look forward to hearing from you with any suggestions.
